Each type of head has various sizes and styles for different applications.

Low Pressure Mixing Heads

The mixing head assembly is the most important component of the entire foam processing unit. Metered materials, delivered to the mixing head are thoroughly mixed within the mixing chamber and dispensed through the nozzle outlet orifice for the selected period of time by means of the pour timer. The head is designed to mix two or more liquid components in continuous or intermittent operation with all components entering the mixing chamber simultaneously. Kymofoam manufactures four low pressure mixing head sizes that cover an output range from 1/4 - 400 lbs/min.

Standard Low Pressure Mixing Head Assembly
All major parts of the assembly are made out of steel (chrome plated), Mixer (teflon coated aluminum or stainless steel), and all seals (Teflon or Viton) . A standard head assembly is equipped with the following:

Mixing head body - square or hex type provided with main gear and safety gear cover.

Bearing housing - the housing equipped with two precision high speed bearings located in the lubricated chamber and lapped shaft seal bushing [mixer seal].

Material valve [4-way type) - each component [up to six] is equipped with this unique valve which allows efficient calibration checking without the necessity of tools and without removal of the mixer and mixer nozzle. Calibration of components can be done individually or simultaneously. Each valve can be removed from the head body without shut-down of the metering unit. The valve is also provided with a set of pressure balancing valves (pour and calibration pressure adjustment).

Flush valve -diaphram type with spring loaded valve stem.

Mixing assembly - with hardened mixer shaft, gear type mixer with seal chamber and easily removable mixer nozzle with nozzle nut and nozzle orifice.

Valve operator - air actuator controlled by a 4-way solenoid valve operates all connected material valves simultaneously through gear transfer system.

Mixer drive - mixer is driven with ac electric motor and 3-stage pulley (1725 - 3450 - 6900 rpm)

Low Pressure Mixing Head Upgrades

Each mixing head assembly can be upgraded with the following options:

Automatic water flush module - the head is equipped with variable speed drive for mixer operation to achieve speed range of 0 - 10,000 rpm. speed of the mixer will automatically increase to 8,000 rpm [max 10,000 rpm] while plain cold water is injected into the mixing chamber. A larger air valve is used for a chamber drying operation.

Water cooled addition - for non-stop operation "head cooling" is recommended. A dual wall bearing housing and mixer nozzle are provided to cool down the bearing housing area and a mixer/mixer nozzle with cold water.

Automatic color selector - for multi-component systems "auto change" of components selected for injection to the mixing chamber is recommended. Each valve assembly is provided with a gear operator which on a demand signal from the operator engages or disengages the specific valve (color stream) from the pour operation.

Hydraulic mixer drive - to drive a mixer hydraulically the following parts are needed: hydraulic motor, motor adapter with coupling and a hydraulic unit (option). Mixer speed: up to 10,000 rpm. Advantage: lower weight.

Static mixer - for certain operations (elastomer systems) some customers request a static mixer set up. The head assembly (without drive assembly and bearing housing assembly) is provided with a static mixer and mixer nozzle.

High Pressure Mixing Heads

The high pressure unit can be equipped with either:

Straight Type Mixing Head
During a recirculation mode both materials flow through control orifices and recirculation grooves at each side of a precision plunger and then back to the machine tanks. When a dispense cycle is initiated, the plunger, actuated by a double acting cylinder, retracts allowing both materials to impinge at pressures up to 3,500 psi before leaving the chamber. (closed mold applications)

"L" Type Mixing Head
The smaller, horizontal impingement chamber is added to reduce the flow velocity of materials passing through a larger (vertical) chamber. (open mold applications)
